I have actually done this before in the boyscouts. Pretty simple really. Although I haven’t fried eggs with it, I have cooked fresh trout and perch. Works great for cooking any meat except poultry. Eggs i would imagine would stick to the shovel a little too bad. You can also turn the shovel over, and have a great place to put your pot. If you set an aluminum or tin pot directly on coals, you run the risk of melting your pot or burning your food. Placing the pot on top of a shovel will prevent both.
